The Barn

Our brief was to convert an old milking byre to form a four bedroom family home, which conserved it’s agricultural heritage,  whilst providing a modern living environment, both in form and function.

The main barn accommodates the sleeping quarters, bath rooms and Utility room, with the smaller barn a large kitchen , dining, snug with double height ceiling and the ‘lean to’ a large living room.

Light floods into the kitchen and down the staircase from skylights in the ridges. A bank of skylights washes the rear wall of the main living room with light which fills the space and upstairs bedrooms are bathed in light through large skylights that afford un broken views of the valley.

The house has photo voltaic panels and solar thermal on the south facing roof and utilises an air source pump, all to lower the house’s environmental impact and utility bills.
